POSITION SUMMARY

USA Lacrosse is looking for a Controller to join our team and work with our Finance team.  In this role, you will lead all accounting and financial activities of the organization, including, but not limited to, accurate and timely reporting of financial statements and implementing and maintaining the organizations financial controls and processes.  You will be an integral part in safeguarding the accuracy and reliability of the organization’s assets.  The Controller will partner with the SVP & CFO to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the Finance department, continually evaluating and seeking opportunities for improvement to its processes and procedures.

A Typical Day Looks Like…

  • Prepares journal entries and supporting schedules and reviews prepared schedules for completeness and accuracy.
  • Reconciles balance sheet and income statement accounts monthly.
  • Tracks and records capital expenditures, periodically audits assets, and ensures disposals are removed on a timely basis.
  • Creates and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs) documents and workflows in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Plans and coordinates the fiscal year-end audit with external audit firm, Audit Sub-committee, and internal staff. 
  • Assists in the development and analysis of the forecast and budget processes.
  • Works with Human Resources to ensure accurate reporting of Payroll and assists with annual reporting, worker's compensation audit, and retirement account audit.
  • Meets with department Directors on an ongoing basis to review budget variances and conducts other departmental analyses to help improve overall financial performance.
  • Continually evaluates processes and procedures of the Finance department and makes recommendations to enhance processes to ensure and maintain efficiency, effectiveness, and accuracy.  This includes implementing/rolling out any process/procedure changes and providing coinciding training to ensure adaptation.   
  • Develops key performance indicators (KPI's) and analyzes trends, comparing against industry benchmarks.
  • Clearly and concisely communicates financial information, policies, and procedures to non-financial managers.
  • Oversees regulatory reporting and compliance and ensures all state and local taxes have been filed on a timely basis.
  • Stays current with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations as they relate to the accounting and finance functions.  This includes keeping abreast of current accounting trends and practices and recommending procedural changes at USA Lacrosse (USAL) as appropriate.

 

Is This You…

  • Minimum of six (6) years accounting experience in all areas, including, but not limited to, journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of GAAP.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365 products, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  
  • Experience working with a computerized accounting system, prior experience with Salesforce and Sage Intaact a plus. 
  • Aptitude and willingness to learn new computer programs and software packages. 
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, problem solve, and meet required deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow up/through skills.  This includes the ability to conduct basic research if something does not look right or there is a discrepancy. 
  • Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal.  This includes the ability to work and communicate with non-financial professionals to ensure their understanding of finances and associated policies and processes.   
  • Ability to exercise discretion and understand how to handle confidential information when necessary.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced, "roll up your sleeves" environment to deliver results.
  • Willingness to learn about the sport of lacrosse and appreciate the needs for developing funds to fuel its development and growth.   
  • Ability to align with USA Lacrosse’s Mission, Vision, and Values and Strategic Plan to support our initiatives and organizational goals.

 

Expected Hours of Work

This position is generally expected to work Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm and occasionally requires longer hours or weekend work as related to events and other business needs.  This is a hybrid position and works from the headquarters office in Sparks, MD three (3) days a week with the flexibility to work from home two (2) days a week. 



Compensation & Benefits Overview

The total compensation range (inclusive of base salary plus annual incentive pay potential) for this position is $75,000 to $95,000, commensurate with experience.  USA Lacrosse offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance; offering multiple options for medical and dental.  We provide company paid long term disability (LTD) after one year of employment and company paid life and AD&D insurance at one time an employee’s salary up to $50,000.  USA Lacrosse offers a 403(b)-retirement plan, including a 4% employer contribution at one year of employment.  In addition to these benefits, USA Lacrosse offers generous PTO, company paid holidays, and additional voluntary insurance options, such as pet insurance.    


Travel Requirements

Travel may be necessary up to 10% of the time (local, regional) to work local events. Travel would involve the following mode(s) of travel: car, train, or air. Some out of area and overnight travel may be expected.
