POSITION SUMMARY

USA Lacrosse is looking for a Social Media Specialist to join USA Lacrosse.  This individual is a passionate storyteller, strategic thinker, and collaborator across all departments within USA Lacrosse to grow brand awareness and reach all audiences with diversity, equity, and inclusion in mind.  The Social Media Specialist helps shape the daily social presence of USA Lacrosse and its growing portfolio of properties, including the National Teams and USA Lacrosse Magazine on the road to the LA28 Olympic Games.  You will be a core player in telling the story of lacrosse—its athletes, its community, its culture, and its future. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, you’ll ideate, create, and publish content that strengthens connection, sparks engagement, grows participation, and shapes an “always on” brand on social across all social media channels.

A Typical Day Looks Like…

Planning & Administration

  • Manages day-to-day publishing, engagement, and community management across all USA Lacrosse social platforms (i.e., Instagram, TikTok, X/Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads, etc.).  This includes being knowledgeable on emerging channels and making recommendations on where USA Lacrosse should be posting social content to stay current and have the USA Lacrosse brand front and center. 
  • Maintains and contributes to a forward-thinking content calendar across multiple brand verticals.  This includes knowing what competitors and other governing bodies (GBs), national governing bodies (NGBs), and sports organizations are doing. 
  • Writes engaging, platform-specific copy, reflecting USA Lacrosse's tone, mission, and values across all social media channels.   
  • Provides on-site coverage to capture content for USA Lacrosse events, including training camps, clinics, games, events, photo/video shoots, community and partner activations, and press moments.  This includes delivering real-time coverage during high-impact moments.
  • Works collaboratively with athletes, coaches, partners, and internal departments to capture compelling moments and storyline opportunities to tell USA Lacrosse's story.

Content Development & Publishing

  • Captures behind-the-scenes content at training camps, clinics, games, events, photo/video shoots, community and partner activations, and press moments. 
  • Shoots and edits short-form videos (i.e., Reels, TikTok’s, Shorts), photos, graphics, and real-time social assets - often in fast-moving, live environments. 
  • Creates trend-reactive, culturally relevant content that feels native to each platform, depicting USA Lacrosse's brand, voice, and mission while ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion.   
  • Partners with the social, marketing, communications, and content teams to translate organizational priorities into social-first campaigns.
  • Aligns social content with USA Lacrosse’s business goals, including, but not limited to, membership, participation, USAL events, coach/official/player education, retail, partnerships, and Olympic storytelling. 
  • Helps develop concept strategies and executes content series' to highlight athletes, the game, and the fan community.   

Analytics & Reporting

  • Tracks and reports on social performance using tools such as Sprout Social and native platform analytics.  This includes learning about and making recommendations for additional tools to enhance USA Lacrosse's analytics and reporting.    
  • Shares insights, learning's, and best practices internally.  This includes providing regular recommendations for growth and optimization of USA Lacrosse's social presence. 
  • Stays up to date (and ahead of) platform trends, social practices, cultural moments, and algorithm shifts to keep USA Lacrosse at the forefront of lacrosse content in the sports community.    

 

Is This You…

  • 1 to 2 years of experience in social media marketing with knowledge of/exposure to social media strategy development, campaign management, calendar planning, content collaborations, community management, performance assessment, and paid media.  Experience working for a sports brand, team, league, media organization, or cultural property strongly preferred. 
  • Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for the power of social media and content marketing with a keen eye towards innovation, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience in developing social marketing strategies that are native to individual channels, authentic to the brand, and demonstrate tangible return on investment (ROI). 
  • Strategic planning skills with the ability to identify, prioritize, and articulate high impact social campaigns and initiatives a plus.
  • Experience in short-form video creation, mobile-first editing, and social storytelling. 
  • Excellent copywriting skills with the ability to match and elevate brand voice. 
  • Knowledge and expertise with all social platforms, including the ability to work with all major platforms.  This includes experience working with CapCut, Adobe Suite, Canva, Slate, or a similar platform-native editing tools and the ability to learn such tools.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft 365, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams. 
  • Proven experience implementing promotions via social channels and basic knowledge of legal requirements to ensure compliance with all promotional executions.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and use social data to affect change and determine and report on ROI.  Familiarity with analytics platforms (i.e., Sprout, YouTube Studie, IG Insights) and/or the aptitude to learn how to use such platforms required.
  • Working knowledge of the latest social media technologies and best practices, such as new tools, algorithm changes, promotional rules and restrictions, platform enhancements, etc.  This includes desire to continue to learn by participating in self-led professional development to stay current on trends in the industry.
  • Excellent communication, including verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.  This includes the ability to collaborate, manage projects, and build relationships to establish trust and confidence. 
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, follow up/through skills, and the ability to meet established deadlines.  This includes the ability to pivot and shift priorities as needed.    
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced, dynamic, cross-functional team working toward a common goal. 
  • Ability to be flexible with your work schedule, including the ability to work nights and weekends based on event needs.  This includes some overnight and weekend travel for events.
  • Willingness to learn about the sport of lacrosse and appreciate the need to develop, grow, and fuel the growth of the sport with diversity, equity, and inclusion in mind.
  • Ability to align with USA Lacrosse's Mission, Vision, and Values to support our initiatives and organizational goals.  

 

Expected Hours of Work

This position is generally expected to work Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm and occasionally requires longer hours or weekend work as related to events and other business needs.  This is a hybrid position and works from the headquarters office in Sparks, MD three (3) days a week with the flexibility to work from home two (2) days a week. 

 

Compensation & Benefits Overview

The hourly pay range is $22 to $24 plus eligibility for annual incentive pay, commensurate with experience.

Travel Requirements

Travel may be necessary up to 25% of the time (local, regional, domestic).  Travel would involve the following mode(s) of travel: car, train, or air.  Some out of area and overnight travel may be expected.
